Volunteer applications for Matariki Arrowtown Kā-Muriwai 2024 are now open
If you are keen to help with the mahi that goes into this special event, we want you!
Volunteers are needed for a range of support roles - from help with the fires to fairies, from dishes to dancers, and even the paint patterns for the Kapa haka performers, there are lots of things to get involved with.
If you are over 16 years of age, can communicate well (you don't need to speak Te Reo, but you need to be comfortable talking to members of the public and the event team), can follow instructions and love to be part of a large event, sign up below.
As a thank you, every volunteer will receive an adult annual pass from Skyline Queenstown, one of our event sponsors. Now that’s worth putting the hat, gloves and smile on for!
Volunteer roles:
Gold coin collection: you have a warm smile and can rattle the donation tin at the entrance. Eftpos will also be available for you to use. You may also rove around gathering koha donations.
Information tent: you will be helping visitors with information about the event, what is on where, and the central point for lost children and property. A good level of English is required.
Te Papa Reo: you can speak Te Reo Māori confidently. Printed words will be hanging in the trees with the stars and you will help visitors learn and pronounce them at the Te Papa Reo activation.
Library Green support: you will be an event host helping visitors with writing letters, guarding the fire pit, helping the performers on the stage.
Roving waste team: you will be part of our sustainability team collecting and cleaning the reusable dishes in circulation and taking them to the kitchen area. You will also make sure visitors are putting waste in the right places.
Kitchen washer: you will be part of our sustainability team cleaning the reusable dishes in circulation.
Stage Support: you will help getting all the performers from the hall to the stage and back. Stage support is needed for both stages.
Guest host: you will be a crowd wanderer in high-vis, giving out information with a smile and keeping extra eyes out for accidents or injury.
Road closure support: you will be at the key road closure points to help locals and buses get through the cordon and keep pedestrians safe.
